Head of Flight Safety (m/f/x) Cargolux Airlines International S.A.

  • To be the direct contact between the Aviation Safety Department and the Nominated Person Flight Operations and the flight operations team
  • Act as point of contact and responsible coordinator between the Aviation Safety Department Risk Management and Flight Operations process owners for Safety related Risk Management processes;
  • Chair the Flight Operations Safety Group
  • Deputize the Head of Aviation Safety (Safety Manager) during his absence and/or for specific tasks and projects
  • Support the Head of Aviation Safety (Safety Manager) in coordination of tasks of the Aviation Safety Department
  • Assist with the investigation of occurrences
  • Research, review and evaluation of external source materials
  • Coordinate the regulatory authority’s Mandatory Occurrence Reporting requirements and the SSP requirements
  • Support the Head of Aviation Safety to monitor safety concerns in the aviation industry and their possible impact on the operation
  • Maintain liaison with manufacturers, customer flight safety departments, government regulatory bodies and other flight safety organizations worldwide
  • Maintain familiarity with all aspects of the Company’s activities and its personnel
  • Allocate and coordinate Safety investigations in his area of expertise and amongst safety investigators allocated to the position holder
  • Support the Aviation Safety Manager in Budget and HR related issues
  • Support in the oversight of the Safety reporting Database
  • Issue safety recommendations from investigations to the organization to reduce the probability of reoccurrence and consequences of safety occurrences
  • Support the monitoring of corrective actions and safety trends in relation to his/her area of expertise
  • Support the Sub-departments of the Aviation Safety Department in producing safety-related information and provide periodic reports on the organization’s safety performance
  • Support the Aviation Safety Department to monitor safety concerns in the aviation industry and their possible impact on the operation


  • Previous B747, B777 or other heavy airplane type operational experience as flight crew member is of advantage
  • Previous experience in a Cargo Airline is of advantage
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, Risk Management or equivalent is of advantage
  • Safety / Quality management experience
  • Accident / Incident Investigator qualification is of advantage
  • Understanding Risk Management, Safety Performance and Safety Promotion
  • Understanding of human factors principles in aviation
  • Knowledge of modern safety management principles and practices, including Systems Thinking

  • Position based in Luxembourg
  • Occasional travel required within the entire Cargolux network
  • A Certificate of good conduct (Casier judiciaire, Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis) will be required in case of positive selection
